How to Find Your Appliance Model Number
Before a part is quoted or service is scheduled, the appliance's model number and serial number are needed. They live on a small metal or sticker tag in a different spot for every brand and appliance type. Here's exactly where to look — with the Kenmore badge decoder at the bottom.
Refrigerator Model Number Locations
| Brand | Primary Location | Backup Location |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung | Inside left wall, top, near ceiling of the fridge compartment | Behind the bottom crisper drawer |
| LG | Inside fridge, on the side wall near the top hinge | On the door frame when the door is open |
| Whirlpool / Maytag / KitchenAid / Amana | Inside fridge, on the upper-left or upper-right wall | Under the kick plate at the front bottom |
| GE / GE Profile / Café / Monogram | Inside fridge, on the side wall behind the meat drawer | Behind the kick plate; on the back of side-by-side doors |
| Frigidaire / Electrolux | Inside fridge on the right wall, halfway down | On the back of the unit (visible if pulled out) |
| Sub-Zero | Inside fridge, top-front edge of the cabinet (under the grille on built-ins) | Behind the upper grille (BI-series & 700-series) |
| Viking | Inside fridge, on the upper-left interior wall | Behind the toe-kick grille |
| Bosch / Thermador | Inside fridge, on the upper-right interior wall | Bottom of the door inside (built-ins) |
Washer Model Number Locations
| Brand | Top-Load | Front-Load |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung | Under the lid (front-right corner of the rim) | Inside the door opening, on the side or top of the gasket frame |
| LG | Under the lid on the left side | Inside the door frame; sometimes inside the detergent drawer cavity |
| Whirlpool / Maytag / KitchenAid | Under the lid (rear-left or front), or back of the control console | Inside the door, on the lower right of the door frame |
| GE | Under the lid on the rim | Inside the door opening on the bottom right |
| Bosch | N/A (no top-load) | Inside the door frame on the right side |
| Miele | N/A | Inside the door opening on the right side; also on the rear panel |
Dryer Model Number Locations
Almost every dryer has the tag inside the door opening — open the door, look around the inside lip of the opening, especially the bottom. Some brands (LG, Bosch) put the tag inside the lint filter housing instead. If you can't find it inside the door, pull the lint filter and look down into the housing with a flashlight.
Gas dryer note: the model tag and the gas conversion sticker are usually side by side. Both matter when ordering parts — the conversion sticker indicates whether the dryer is set up for natural gas or LP.
Dishwasher Model Number Locations
Dishwashers are the easiest: open the door, look at the inner edge of the door (the part you see when the door swings down). The tag wraps around either the top edge, the right edge, or the left edge depending on the brand.
- Bosch / Thermador: right edge of the door, inner side
- Whirlpool / KitchenAid / Maytag: top edge of the door, inner side
- Samsung / LG: left or right edge of the door
- GE: top edge of the door, inner side, or on the upper interior tub wall
- Miele: right edge of the door, inner side, near the top
Oven, Range & Cooktop Model Number Locations
- Freestanding ranges (most brands): remove the bottom storage drawer — the tag is on the front frame, inside the drawer cavity
- Slide-in ranges: open the door and look at the front frame (the part the door hits when it closes), or the left/right inner edge of the door
- Wall ovens: open the door, look at the inner edge of the door or the front frame near the hinges. Built-in wall ovens may also have the tag inside the upper or lower trim ring.
- Gas cooktops: lift the burner caps and the tag is often on the metal sheet underneath one of the burner wells. Sometimes underneath the unit (visible from inside the cabinet below).
- Induction cooktops: always underneath, visible from inside the cabinet below.
- Wolf, Viking, Thermador: behind the lower toe-kick panel (snaps off), or on the side rail visible when the storage drawer is removed.
Microwave Model Number Locations
- Countertop: rear panel (lift it off the counter and look at the back) or underneath the unit
- Over-the-range (OTR): inside the door frame on the lower-right edge, or behind the front grille (the long vent above the door — unscrew two screws and it pops down)
- Built-in / wall: inside the door, lower-right edge, or behind the trim kit
Kenmore Isn't a Manufacturer — It's a Badge
Sears never built appliances. The first three digits of every Kenmore model number tell you who actually made it, which is the brand whose parts you actually need.
Read the first 3 digits of your Kenmore model number:
- 110 → Whirlpool (most common; covers most Kenmore washers, dryers, and some refrigerators)
- 106 → Whirlpool (refrigerators)
- 665 → Whirlpool (dishwashers)
- 795 → LG (most newer Kenmore Elite refrigerators)
- 796 → LG (Kenmore Elite washers/dryers)
- 363 → GE (older refrigerators, dishwashers)
- 253 → Frigidaire / Electrolux (refrigerators)
- 417 → Frigidaire (washers)
- 587 → Frigidaire (dishwashers)
- 911 → Frigidaire (ranges)
Example: a Kenmore washer model 110.20022012 was built by Whirlpool. Parts ordered from a Whirlpool parts catalog will fit. A Kenmore Elite fridge model 795.71054.010 was built by LG — parts come from the LG side.
What to Send Before the Visit
- A photo of the full model/serial tag (legible, not blurry)
- A photo of the symptom (puddle on the floor, error code on the display, frost build-up, etc.)
- One sentence describing what's happening ("Bosch dishwasher shows E15 and won't drain")
Text to (720) 447-8577. With that info, a price range can usually be quoted and the most likely parts loaded on the truck before arriving — which is how 83% of repairs are completed on the first visit.
